See you next year at the 15th Western Circuit Sailing Regatta!!!

The 14th SMU-RM Western Circuit Sailing Regatta is back once again and this year, expect the fun and excitement to be better than ever. Held over 3 weekends on the 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th & 20th of August, this Singapore Sailing sanctioned regatta has become one of Singapore’s biggest keelboat events and has become well-known for its challenging courses and fun filled post-race parties.

The usually calm and serene waters off Raffles Marina will be the setting for top local and international teams to pit their skills and wits against each other as the sea becomes a fierce arena where boats (and crews) of different shapes and sizes fight it out in a varied range of classes. Coinciding with the notorious Southwest monsoon, sailors will have to be at their best as the winds fill in. Last year, the racing was turned up a notch with the inclusion of the incredibly stimulating Moth Class as well as the colourful fleet of Access 2.3 dinghies and we are expecting more great things this year.

Teams will be put through the grinder with the racing format as the traditionally demanding windward-leeward courses mean sailors have to be tactically astute to plot their advance up the race track while passage races add in a different but interesting element to the racing. Up for grabs once again will be the SMU President’s Cup which last year was awarded to David Ross’s team on board Ku Ku Ker Chu. This splendid trophy was donated by the former Singapore Management University President in conjunction with the 10th edition of this regatta and has been one of the highlights ever since.

The Western Circuit Sailing Regatta is more than just a regatta. It also is a chance for the boaters to do their part for charity. All money collected at the various fund-raising events will go towards providing more opportunities for the members of Sailability Singapore to experience the joys of sailing. Do your bit for the community as we try to surpass the $20,000 mark set last year!! Look out too for the vibrant and exuberant performances from the SMU arts and cultural fraternity which are sure to thrill the crowd and set the mood right for the after parties.

With SMU students injecting their signature enthusiasm and passion in organizing this regatta, the SMU-RM Western Circuit Sailing Regatta promises much and has always delivered. Mark out the dates NOW and see you on the 6th of August 2011 for a regatta you won’t forget!
